Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An oval cut lab grown diamond held in a continuous bezel rim, with a step cut trapezoid diamond set into a squared box frame on each side, the three settings meeting edge to edge across the finger on a plain tapered band.
Every stone on this ring is enclosed rather than clawed, and that is the whole idea. The oval sits in a rolled rim. Each trapezoid sits in a four sided box with a straight wall on all four edges. Nothing is held by prongs anywhere, so from above the ring reads as three framed panels butted together in a row, which is a far more architectural statement than any claw set three stone can make. The choice of trapezoid for the sides is what makes the row work geometrically. A trapezoid has a long parallel edge and a short one, so laid with its long edge against the bezel it fills the entire space between the round rim and the shoulder without leaving the awkward wedge of empty metal that a round or pear side stone always creates. The three frames therefore touch along their full height and the head reads as one continuous block. The trapezoids are step cut, so they return broad slow planes of light against the faster scatter of the brilliant cut oval, and because a step cut hides nothing they are selected eye clean rather than simply to a clarity grade. Below the head the shank tapers away quickly and carries nothing at all.
The shank tapers quickly from the head to a fine round band, polished bright and left unset. The interior is comfort rounded.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the three metal frames read as a single continuous block across the finger.
The ring is made to your finger size. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure, we will send you a printable size guide before we begin work.
We can change the carat weight, substitute tapered baguettes or emerald cuts for the trapezoids, claw set the centre instead of bezel setting it, or add pave along the shank. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and our workshop will prepare a quotation and a rendering before any metal is cut.
Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.
Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.
What is a trapezoid cut
A four sided step cut with one long parallel edge and one short one, so it forms a shallow wedge. It is used almost exclusively as a side stone because that shape fills the space beside a centre stone completely.
Why trapezoids rather than pears or rounds
Because they leave no gap. A round or pear beside a bezel always leaves a wedge of empty metal. A trapezoid laid long edge against the rim fills the whole space, so the three frames touch and the head reads as one block.
Is every stone bezel set
The centre is in a rolled bezel and the sides are in four sided box frames. There are no claws anywhere on the ring.
Is this a durable ring
Very. Enclosed settings protect the girdle of every stone and there is nothing raised to catch or bend.
Do step cut sides show inclusions more
Considerably. There is no facet pattern to hide behind, which is why we select the trapezoids eye clean rather than simply to a clarity grade.
How long does the ring take to make
Three separate frames are cut to their individual stones and aligned to meet exactly, so allow twenty to twenty four working days before dispatch.
Matched trapezoids are among the hardest side stones to source in mined goods, because they are cut from specific rough and any tint reads straight through the open step facets. Lab grown material lets us cut the pair to match the centre exactly, with a traceable origin and no mining.
