An oval lab grown diamond in split claws above a concealed halo, on a shank whose sides carry a scroll pattern cut into the metal by hand, with milgrain running along both edges. The engraving is on the flanks of the band, not the top, so it is seen from the side and in the shadow it casts.

Hand engraving and cast decoration produce different surfaces, and once you know what to look for the difference is unmistakable. A cast pattern is moulded, so every cut wall has the same slightly soft, granular finish as the rest of the ring, and the pattern is identical on both shoulders because both came from the same mould. Hand engraving removes metal with a graver, a hardened steel tool pushed through the surface, and the wall it leaves behind is burnished to a mirror by the tool itself as it passes. That is why a hand cut scroll flashes when the hand turns while a cast one stays dull, and it is why the two shoulders of an engraved ring are never quite identical. Our engraver cuts each side separately by eye against a drawn line, which is also why the work is priced by the hour rather than by the pattern.

Band details

The shank carries a hand cut scroll on each flank with milgrain worked along both edges, and a line of small accents along the top. Because the engraving is on the sides, it survives the everyday contact that wears the top face of a ring first.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is shown in the photographs. Engraving cuts most cleanly in 14K and 18K gold; in sterling silver the softer metal takes a slightly broader line.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

Does the ring come with a certificate

How can I tell hand engraving from cast decoration
A hand cut wall is burnished to a mirror by the graver as it passes, so it flashes when the ring turns. A cast pattern has the same soft surface as the rest of the metal and stays dull.

Will the engraving wear away
Very slowly, and it is on the flanks rather than the top face, which is where a ring wears first. We re-cut it free of charge whenever the ring comes in for servicing.

Are the two shoulders identical
No, and deliberately so. Each is cut separately by eye, which is the signature of hand work rather than a mould.

Can this ring be resized
Within a moderate range. The engraved panels cannot be shortened, so a large change means re-cutting a section, which we will discuss with you first.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. Hand engraving is slow, so production usually takes sixteen to twenty working days before dispatch.
