An oval cut lab grown diamond turned east to west and held in four slim claws on a plain polished band. Turning the stone sideways is the entire idea and nothing else has been added to distract from it. Set the conventional way, north to south, an oval points along the finger and reads as a traditional engagement ring. Turned across the finger it becomes a horizontal bar of diamond, wider than the hand expects, and the effect is immediately modern despite the shape itself being centuries old. On a plain slim band with four fine claws there is nothing else competing, so the orientation does all the work. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate. With no accent stones the metal colour is the only other decision. Yellow and rose gold outline the sideways oval warmly, white gold makes the setting disappear so the horizontal line of the stone is all you see. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps fine claws rigid.

Does an east west setting look smaller?
No, but it looks different. The same stone spans the width of the finger rather than its length, so it appears broader and shorter rather than long and tapering. Many people find it more striking at the same carat weight.

Is it as secure as a north south setting?
Yes. The claws grip the girdle at the same four points relative to the stone, just rotated. Nothing about the orientation affects security.

Is this easy to pair with a wedding band?
