An oval lab grown diamond in four claws on a shank that divides into two strands, one pave set and one plain, which twist around each other and cross beneath the setting before rejoining under the finger. From the front the two strands read as a single band. From above the crossing is obvious.

A crossover shank exists to solve a problem of proportion at the shoulder. On a plain band the metal arriving at the setting is the same width as the metal at the back of the finger, so the shoulder either looks thin against a large stone or the whole band has to be thickened to compensate. Splitting the shank into two strands lets the shoulder be as wide as the two strands laid side by side while the band itself stays as narrow as one, and crossing them at the setting means the width arrives exactly where it is needed and disappears again immediately. Making one strand pave and the other plain then does something a matched pair could not: the twist becomes readable. Two identical strands crossing would simply look like a thicker band, but with one bright and one dark the eye can follow each strand round the finger and sees the movement rather than only the mass.

Band details
