An oval lab grown diamond sits in four claws above a concealed row of small round diamonds set into the outer wall of the basket. From above that row is invisible. From the side it appears as a bright line of light directly beneath the centre stone, and the shank below it carries marquise cut accents alternating with small rounds, each separated by a polished bead of metal.

The beaded accent shank is the older of the two ideas. Before pave became the default way to put diamonds on a band, stones were set one at a time in individual seats with metal left between them, and that metal was raised into a small bead at each junction. This has a practical advantage pave does not: because every accent has its own seat with its own bead, losing one stone does not loosen its neighbours, and a single accent can be replaced without disturbing the rest of the row. It also lets the design alternate shapes. A marquise laid lengthwise along the shank covers more of the band than a round of the same weight, so alternating the two produces a line that reads as continuous coverage while using fewer stones and keeping the band slim.

Band details

The shank is slim and lightly domed, with the accent run continuing roughly two thirds of the way around and the lower half left as plain polished metal. Leaving the underside clear keeps the ring comfortable against the palm and makes future resizing straightforward, since there are no stones to move.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold, shown in the photographs, gives each bead a warm highlight that separates one accent from the next.
