Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An oval emerald held in claws with a small cluster of round diamonds tucked into each shoulder, on a fine band. The emerald is the only coloured stone in the ring and everything around it is deliberately kept small, so nothing competes with the green.
Emerald is graded on colour in a way diamond is not. What buyers pay for is saturation and tone, a green deep enough to read as green from across a room but not so dark that the stone goes flat in low light, and that balance is far more important to the look of the ring than clarity is. Nearly every emerald in existence contains inclusions, so many that the trade calls them jardin, the French for garden, and treats them as evidence of natural origin rather than as flaws. Judge this stone by its colour, not by looking into it.
The shank is fine and rounded, finished in two tones so that warm metal carries the shoulders while the setting around the emerald stays cooler. Keeping the band this narrow is deliberate, because a heavier shank would pull attention away from a stone whose appeal is entirely its colour.
Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Rose gold is shown here and it is the most interesting choice, because warm pink metal sits opposite green on the colour wheel and makes the emerald look greener by contrast. Yellow gold gives a richer, more traditional pairing. White gold and sterling silver read cooler and let the stone speak without any influence from the metal.
This ring is available in a full range of US sizes. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure of the size, contact us and we will help you measure at home before the ring is made.
We make every ring to order, which means the design can be adjusted. Ask us for a sapphire, garnet or lab grown diamond centre instead of emerald, a different centre shape, larger accent clusters, a pave shank, a single metal finish or a matching wedding band. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and a member of our team will reply with drawings and a quote.
Why do emeralds have visible inclusions?
Almost all of them do. The trade calls these inclusions jardin and accepts them as normal for the species. An emerald is bought for the quality of its green, not for clarity in the way a diamond is.
How should I care for an emerald ring?
Clean it with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner or steam, and take the ring off before swimming or using household chemicals. Emerald is softer than diamond and its inclusions make it less tolerant of shock and heat.
Can I wear an emerald ring every day?
Yes, with a little care. Emerald sits at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, hard but not as hard as diamond, so it is best removed for sport, gardening or heavy manual work.
Why do the diamond accents sit in clusters?
A cluster of small stones frames the emerald without introducing a second large stone. A single big side stone would compete with the centre and split the eye between the two.
Does rose gold really make an emerald look greener?
Yes. Green and pink sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, so warm metal beside a green stone strengthens the perception of both. It is the same principle behind complementary colour in painting.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included with every order at no additional cost.
Can this ring be resized?
Yes. The band is plain below the shoulder clusters, so a jeweler can cut and adjust it in the normal way.
A coloured centre stone gives you something that no diamond can, which is colour that identifies the ring instantly from across a room. Emerald in particular carries centuries of association with renewal and is the traditional stone for a May birthday and a twentieth or thirty fifth anniversary. Paired with lab grown diamond accents, you get the colour you want and the brilliance of diamond around it.
