Three bezels, not one

Each stone gets its own closed rim rather than sharing a frame. That keeps a visible line of gold between the diamonds, so the three read as a deliberate row rather than a single blurred mass, and it makes the ring considerably more robust than a three stone held in claws.

Why a bezel on an oval

A bezel wraps the whole girdle, which is the part of an oval most likely to chip, and keeps the profile low enough to wear daily. There is nothing to catch on clothing and nothing to bend out of line. For anyone who works with their hands, it is the setting we recommend before any other.

On the bow tie

Every oval carries a faint dark band across its centre, caused by the way facets shadow themselves in an elongated brilliant. With three ovals in a row any mismatch is obvious, so all three are selected together and stones with a pronounced bow tie are rejected.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, where the three rims read strongly against the stones. In white metal they recede and the diamonds run together. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Both side ovals are matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. Each bezel is formed around its own measured stone so all three rims stay even, and they are joined to the band together so the tops finish level. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing underneath the three bezels. A bezel keeps the front of a stone cleaner than claws, but the undersides still collect. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? All three ovals are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight.

Does the carat weight include the side stones? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre oval. The two side ovals are in addition and are scaled to suit it.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Does a bezel make the stones look smaller? Each rim covers the extreme edge of its stone, so slightly. In exchange the ring is far harder to damage and sits low enough for daily wear.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, very closely. Bezels on a plain band are among the easiest engagement rings to pair with a straight band.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
