Squared claws are a metal detail, so they show most clearly in yellow or rose gold where four blocks of colour sit against the diamond. White gold softens them into the outline of the oval and lets the pave read as one line of light. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps square claw edges crisp for longer.

What are squared claws?
Claws finished with a flat square top rather than a rounded tip. They hold the stone identically but read as four deliberate geometric marks against the curve of an oval, which gives a classic shape a more modern edge.

Does the pave get in the way of a wedding ring?
No. The shank is straight and slim and the setting sits low, so a plain or pave wedding band meets it flush without a shaped notch.

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same weight?
