An oval cut lab grown diamond raised on a hidden halo, set into a split shank that divides below the head and wraps up around the basket before rejoining at the base of the finger. A split shank does two things a straight band cannot: it frames the centre stone with metal on both sides so the oval looks wider set, and it distributes the visual weight of a large stone so a 4 or 5 carat oval does not look like it is balanced on a thin wire. Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. A split shank shows its shape best in a warm metal, because the polished arms catch light along their length and the gap between them reads clearly. In white gold the split is subtler and the ring looks closer to a wide solitaire. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds the split arms in alignment better over the years.

Frequently asked questions

Will a wedding band sit flush against a split shank?
Not usually. Because the shank flares as it approaches the head, a straight band leaves a visible gap at the top. Most people either wear the ring alone, choose a contoured band that follows the flare, or wear the band on the other hand. We can make a matched contoured band to order.

Why choose a split shank for an oval?
An oval is a long stone, and a split shank echoes that length by carrying the eye along the finger rather than stopping at a narrow band. It also gives a large oval more visual support, which matters most at 4 and 5 carat.

Does a split shank catch on things?
Less than you would expect. The arms are polished and rounded with no beads or prongs along them, so there is nothing to snag. The only exposed points are the prongs holding the centre stone.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut grade and carat weight.

Is a split shank harder to resize?
It can be resized, but the work is done at the base where the arms rejoin, so we recommend getting the size right at the order stage. Tell us your size and we build to it.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time to your address.
