Stations, not pave

Each band diamond sits alone in its own setting with gold showing on either side. It gives the shank rhythm rather than a continuous glitter, keeps the ring lighter to look at, and means a single stone can be replaced without disturbing a whole row. It also suits people who find full pave too much but a plain band too little.

Two layers of accent

The hidden halo works in profile, appearing only as the hand turns. The station diamonds work face on, leading the eye along the finger to the centre stone. Neither crosses the outline of the oval, which stays exactly as cut.

The oval cut

A brilliant cut stretched into an ellipse, carrying the fire of a round while covering more of the finger. Every oval has a faint bow tie across its centre; we reject stones where it is pronounced, which matters here where the setting adds nothing to distract from it.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is set into the basket before the head is joined to the band, and the station accents are spaced out from the centre so the rhythm stays even on both sides. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up into the hidden halo from below and around each station accent. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre oval and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre oval. The halo and band diamonds are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Are the raised accents comfortable? Yes, though they are raised rather than flush, so they sit slightly proud against a neighbouring ring. If you wear rings stacked tightly, ask us for the flush set version instead.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly, since the accents stand a little above the band. A shaped band solves it and we will make one to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
