Bigger accents, fewer of them

Most accent bands use a run of tiny stones. This one uses a small number of much larger ones, spaced apart and raised on their own settings. The effect is completely different: instead of a shimmer along the finger you get distinct points of light, and the ring reads as a set of stones rather than a decorated shank.

Two layers, doing different jobs

The hidden halo works in profile, appearing only as the hand turns. The band accents work face on, leading the eye to the centre stone. Neither crosses the outline of the oval, which stays exactly as cut.

On the bow tie

Every oval has a faint dark band across its centre, caused by the way facets shadow themselves in an elongated brilliant. We reject stones where it is pronounced, which matters on a setting where the centre stone is clearly the largest thing on the ring.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade, which matters more here than with small pave because these stones are large enough to judge by eye.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is set into the basket before the head is joined to the band, and each accent is given its own seat and claws, spaced out from the centre so both shoulders match. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up into the hidden halo from below and around each accent. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre oval and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre oval. The halo and band diamonds are in addition, and on this design they add a noticeable amount of diamond.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

How does this differ from a pave band? Pave is a continuous line of very small stones. These are individually set and much larger, so they read separately and the gold between them stays visible.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly, since the accents are raised. A shaped band solves it and we will make one to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
