An oval cut lab grown diamond held in four slim claws on a plain tapered band, with no halo, no hidden halo and no pave anywhere on the ring. This is the reference version of the oval solitaire, the one every other oval design is a variation of. The gallery beneath the stone is left completely open, so light enters through the pavilion from below as well as through the crown, which is the single biggest factor in how bright an oval looks. Nothing is added that would interrupt the outline. When the point of a design is the shape of the diamond itself, every extra element works against it. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate. With no stones anywhere but the centre, the metal colour is the only other choice in the design. Yellow and rose gold warm the setting and contrast with a white diamond, white gold keeps the whole ring a single cool tone and makes the oval look as large as possible. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps a plain polished band free of dents for longer.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a plain solitaire over a halo or pave design?
Because nothing competes with the centre stone. On a large oval the outline is the design, and every added element shortens or interrupts it. A plain solitaire is also the easiest style to pair with any wedding band later.

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same weight?
Generally yes. An oval spreads its weight across a longer surface, presenting more face up area than a round of identical carat, and the elongated outline flatters the finger.

What is the bow tie in an oval?
A faint dark band across the centre of some ovals, caused by the pavilion facets shadowing each other. Good proportioning minimises it, which is why we only set ovals with excellent cut and symmetry grades.

Why only four claws?
Four claws cross less of the stone than six, so more of the oval is visible face up and the outline stays unbroken. On an oval, two claws sit at the ends and two at the widest points, which is the most secure arrangement for the shape.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?

How long does it take to make?
