Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Double Prong Engagement Ring with Hidden Halo, E Color VVS2

An oval cut lab grown diamond held in double prongs over a hidden halo, on a fine band. Instead of four single claws there are four pairs, set side by side, a detail lifted from Victorian and Edwardian jewellery and rarely seen on modern rings. The pairs read as deliberate marks around the stone rather than disappearing the way single prongs do, and on a long shape like an oval they also spread the holding pressure along the girdle rather than concentrating it at four points. Beneath the stone a concealed halo adds light from the side. Every diamond is a laboratory grown diamond, identical in carbon structure, hardness and brilliance to a mined diamond, graded E colour and VVS2 clarity. Each ring is made to order in our own Surat workshop and ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone.

Metal options

This ring is made to order in ten metal choices, so you can match it to jewellery you already wear.

  • 925 Sterling Silver
  • 10K Yellow Gold, 10K Rose Gold, 10K White Gold
  • 14K Yellow Gold, 14K Rose Gold, 14K White Gold
  • 18K Yellow Gold, 18K Rose Gold, 18K White Gold

All gold options are solid gold, never plated or filled. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright white surface and lets the paired claws blend into the stone. Yellow and rose gold make each pair read clearly against the diamond, which is the point of choosing double prongs in the first place.

Ring size

Choose your ring size at checkout. We make every size from US 3 to US 13, including half sizes, at no additional cost. If you are unsure of the size, order anyway and contact us after checkout, we will help you confirm it before the ring goes into production.

Custom orders

Want single prongs instead of doubles, a bezel setting, the hidden halo removed, pave along the shoulders, a different centre shape, engraving inside the shank, or a matching wedding band, we can make it. For any other customization request please contact us at https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and we will quote it for you.

Frequently asked questions

What is a double prong setting

A double prong setting uses two claws at each holding point instead of one, so a four point setting has eight prongs in total, arranged in pairs. It is an older style, common in Victorian and Edwardian rings, and it does two things. It holds the stone more securely, because each pair shares the load, and it adds a visible decorative rhythm around the diamond that a single prong setting does not have.

Are double prongs more secure

Yes, meaningfully so on a larger stone. If a single prong is damaged or wears thin the stone is immediately at risk, whereas with a pair the second claw still holds while the first is repaired. That redundancy is why the style was used on important stones historically, and why we recommend it for the 4 and 5 carat options here.

What is a hidden halo

A hidden halo is a ring of small diamonds set horizontally around the basket underneath the centre stone, facing outward rather than upward. From directly above you do not see it, so the ring still reads as a clean oval solitaire. From the side and from the wearer's own eye level it catches light and makes the centre stone appear to float above the finger.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Why do oval diamonds look bigger than round diamonds of the same weight

An oval spreads its weight across a longer surface, so for the same carat weight it presents a larger face up area than a round brilliant, typically around ten percent more. It also elongates the finger visually. That is why oval is the most requested elongated shape for engagement rings.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat oval centre realistic on a normal budget. Because the origin of every stone is documented from the moment it is grown, a lab grown diamond is conflict free by definition. Growing a diamond also avoids the open pit excavation, land disruption and water use that mining a comparable stone requires, so the environmental cost is considerably lower.
