Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Curved Wave Band Engagement Ring in Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A single oval laboratory grown diamond and one continuous ribbon of metal. The band rises on one side, sweeps across the base of the stone in a shallow wave and catches the oval from beneath, so the diamond appears to rest in the curve rather than be gripped by it. How the wave holds the stone

The shank is not a circle. It is shaped so that one shoulder lifts higher than the other and carries across the underside of the oval as a broad, polished sweep. The diamond is secured along that sweep and by a short lip of metal at each end. Because the metal does the structural work, nothing needs to sit on top of the stone, which is why the crown of the oval is completely clear from above.

A ring that looks different from every angle

Seen from above it reads as a plain oval solitaire. Turn your hand and the asymmetry appears, the wave rising out of the band. This is the kind of design that tends to get asked about, because it does not look like a standard engagement ring silhouette.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. A design this sculptural lives or dies on the polish of the metal, so a warm yellow or rose gold shows the curve best. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The wave is carved and filed by hand, then polished in stages, because a curve like this cannot be cast to a finish. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. There is very little to trap dirt, so a rinse is usually enough. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight.

Is it secure without claws? Yes. The stone is held along the length of the curve and locked at both ends, which spreads the pressure over a much larger area than four claw tips.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it? Not a straight one. The wave means one side sits higher, so we would pair this with a curved or open band, or wear it alone.

Can it be resized? Yes, but tell us your size carefully. Resizing a shaped band takes longer than a plain one because the curve has to be re-trued.
