A marquise cut lab grown diamond held by two claws only, one wrapping each point, on a fine plain band. There are no claws along the sides of the stone. From every angle except directly end on, the diamond appears to be sitting on the band with nothing holding it at all.

Most rings use four or six claws because a rounded stone has no natural grip points and needs the metal spread around its edge. A marquise is different. Its two points are the only places where the outline comes to a definite corner, and a V shaped tip fitted over a point grips it from three directions at once, above, below and around the tip. Two of those hold a marquise more securely than four claws placed along its curved sides ever could, and they leave the entire length of the stone uninterrupted.

Band details

The shank is a fine plain band with a high polish, running unbroken beneath the stone. Because the two claws sit at the ends of the diamond rather than at its sides, the shank meets the setting cleanly and the ring keeps a very low profile against the finger.

Metal options

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here, and with so little metal touching the stone the warm shank becomes the frame for the whole design. Rose gold reads softer. White gold and sterling silver make the two claws almost disappear, which pushes the floating effect as far as it will go.

Is a two claw setting secure?
On a marquise, yes. Each V shaped tip wraps a point from above, below and around, gripping the stone from three directions at once. It is the standard professional way to set a pointed stone.

Why are there no claws along the sides?
Because they are not needed on this shape, and leaving them off means the full length of the diamond is visible with nothing crossing it.

Do the V tips protect the points?
That is their main purpose. The point of a marquise is the thinnest and most vulnerable part of the stone, and the tip covers it completely so any knock lands on metal.

Does a marquise look larger than other cuts?
Yes. Weight for weight it presents one of the largest visible surfaces of any shape, and its long outline makes the finger look slimmer and longer.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.
