Texture like this cannot be cast convincingly from a smooth model, because a mould reproduces exactly what it is given and an evenly repeating pattern reads immediately as machine made. The bark on this shank is worked into the wax before casting and then finished by hand afterwards, with the depth and direction of the marks deliberately varied so that no two sections of the band are the same. That irregularity is what the eye reads as natural, and it is also why each ring differs slightly from the next.

Band details

The shank is carved with an irregular bark texture along its full outer surface, swelling slightly into small buds where it rises to meet the head. The inside is left completely smooth and rounded so none of the texture is felt against the finger, and the band carries no stones, which means it resizes easily.

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here and is the right choice for carved texture, because warm metal holds shadow in the cut marks and the bark reads clearly from a distance. Rose gold gives a softer, warmer version. White gold and sterling silver flatten the texture into a matte surface rather than a legible pattern.

Frequently asked questions

Is the bark texture the same on every ring?
No. It is worked by hand and deliberately irregular, so the pattern varies slightly from ring to ring. That variation is what makes it read as natural rather than machined.

Will the texture feel rough to wear?
No. All of the carving is on the outside of the band. The inner surface is smooth and rounded exactly like a plain ring.

Are the points of the marquise fragile?
The points are the thinnest part of the stone, which is why both sit inside V shaped claw tips that wrap them completely so any knock lands on metal.

Does a marquise look larger than other cuts?
Yes. Weight for weight it shows one of the largest visible surfaces of any shape, and its long outline makes the finger look slimmer and longer.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.

How do I clean a textured band?
Soak in warm soapy water and use a soft toothbrush to work into the carved areas, then rinse and dry. Textured metal traps more hand cream than a polished band, so clean it a little more often.
