Marquise Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring on an Open Vine Shank with Pear Accents

A marquise cut lab grown diamond set east to west with a pear cut diamond beneath it on each side, carried on a vine shank that splits into an open loop before it reaches the head. The band is not a closed circle. It divides, curves apart and rejoins under the setting, leaving a gap you can see straight through.

Opening the shank that way does something a solid band cannot. Light reaching the ring from behind the hand passes through the gap and up into the pavilion of the stone from underneath, which is the direction a claw set diamond is least often lit from. On a large east west stone, where the underside of the setting is unusually wide and would otherwise sit in its own shadow, that extra path makes a visible difference to how bright the diamond looks in ordinary indoor light rather than under a jeweler's lamp.

Accent stone details

  • Two pear cut lab grown diamonds set below the marquise, one on each side

  • Matched to the center stone in color and clarity

Band details

The shank is modelled as a vine, narrowing and swelling along its length, and it splits into an open loop beneath the head before rejoining at the setting. The inside surface is smooth and rounded so none of the outer shaping is felt against the finger.

Metal options

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here and warm metal reads as living wood, which is what the design is after. Rose gold gives a softer version. White gold and sterling silver turn the vine into something colder and more graphic, which suits people who want the structure without the botanical reference.

Ring size

This ring is available in a full range of US sizes. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure of the size, contact us and we will help you measure at home before the ring is made.

Custom orders

We make every ring to order, which means the design can be adjusted. Ask us for a closed shank, a north to south marquise, round or marquise accents instead of pears, added leaf detail, a different centre shape or a matching contoured wedding band. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and a member of our team will reply with drawings and a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the shank open beneath the stone?
So light can reach the pavilion of the diamond from below, which is the direction a claw set stone is least often lit from. On a wide east west setting it makes a visible difference in ordinary indoor light.

Is an open shank weaker than a closed one?
No. The two arms rejoin at the head and at the base, so the load is carried by both sides. It is the same principle as a split shank, which has been used on large stones for over a century.

Why is the marquise set east to west?
Set across the finger it spans the full width of the hand and reads as a leaf laid on a branch, which suits the vine. Set north to south it lengthens the finger instead, and we can build it that way on request.

Are the points of a marquise fragile?
The points are the thinnest part of the stone, which is why both ends sit inside V shaped claw tips that cover them completely.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.

Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included with every order at no additional cost.

How do I clean a shaped band like this?
Soak in warm soapy water and use a soft toothbrush to work into the carved areas and through the open loop, then rinse and dry. The open gap actually makes the setting easier to reach than a solid gallery.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you the same optical and physical properties as a mined stone at a far better price for the size and quality. Because the growth conditions are controlled, high color and high clarity stones like the E VVS2 used here are available in large carat weights that would be rare and costly in mined goods. It is also a traceable choice, with a known origin and no mining footprint.
