A marquise cut lab grown diamond set east to west along a band that twists rather than running as a circle. The shank rises on one side, turns over itself as it approaches the stone and continues on the other, and the marquise is laid into that turn so its long axis follows the sweep of the metal rather than crossing it. Set the conventional way, north to south, a marquise points along the finger and reads as a formal shape. Turned sideways into a twist it stops looking like a stone mounted on a ring and starts looking like part of the same continuous line. Both points sit protected where the metal folds around them. This ring is a moving line of metal with a stone caught in it, so the colour is inseparable from the form. Yellow and rose gold read as a bold sculptural curve, white gold makes the twist quieter and pushes attention onto the marquise. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps a sculpted curve rigid.

Frequently asked questions

What does east west mean?
The stone is set sideways, with its length running across the finger rather than along it. On a long pointed shape like a marquise this creates a horizontal bar of diamond and suits a band that is already moving rather than straight.

Why does a twist suit an east west marquise?
Because the stone can lie along the direction of the curve. Set north to south it would cut straight across the sweep and interrupt it. Turned sideways it becomes part of the same line.

Are the points protected?
Yes. A marquise has two points and both are the vulnerable parts of the stone. Here the metal folds around each one where the twist meets the girdle.

Does a marquise look larger than other shapes?
Yes, more than any of them. A marquise has the largest face up area per carat of any diamond shape, because so little of its weight sits in depth.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Not flush, because the shank rises and turns out of plane. This ring is designed to be worn alone, or with a shaped band we can make to follow the curve.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
