Two accent shapes, not one

A pear nearest the centre stone and a round beyond it. The pear has a direction and echoes the point of the marquise; the round is neutral and closes the gap to the band. Using the same shape twice would have made the shoulders read as a short run of side stones rather than a taper.

A pointed outline

Everything about this ring narrows: the marquise to its two tips, the accents in size, the band to a plain wire. On the hand the whole top reads as one long diamond shape, which is why it wears considerably larger than its centre stone alone.

The points are covered

Both tips of the marquise and the point of each pear accent sit inside full claws rather than standing clear of them. On a ring made mostly of pointed stones, that is the difference between daily wear and regular repairs.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The pear accents are cut to suit the centre stone, and each accent is given its own seat so the taper stays even on both shoulders. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring worn alongside another ring. That piece is separate and is not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing behind the centre stone and around each accent. Check the point claws once a year. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre marquise and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre marquise. The accents are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush? A straight band sits against the plain shank, though the accents overhang a little. A chevron or shaped band tucks under the point, and we make those to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.

Can I have it set east west? Yes, lying across the finger with the accents at either end. Tell us when you order.
