Graduated accents, not pave

Three stones on each side, each smaller than the last, set in their own claws rather than packed into a channel. Because they reduce in size the shoulders taper, so the eye is drawn inward to the centre stone instead of along a uniform line of glitter. It also keeps the ring lighter to look at than a fully paved band.

The halo that only shows in profile

Set into the side of the basket, facing outward, so it appears as the hand turns and disappears from above. The outline of the marquise is left entirely untouched, which matters on the shape most often chosen for its silhouette.

The points are covered

Each tip of the marquise sits inside a full claw rather than standing clear of one. It costs a little of the outline and saves the stone.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is set into the basket before the head is joined to the band, and each accent is given its own seat so the graduation stays even on both shoulders. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up into the hidden halo from below and around each accent. Individually set stones rinse cleaner than tight pave. Check the point claws once a year. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre marquise and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre marquise. The halo and band diamonds are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

How does this differ from a pave band? Pave is a continuous line of very small stones. These are larger, individually set and graduated, so the gold between them stays visible and the shoulders taper.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly, since the accents are raised. A shaped band solves it and we will make one to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
