A marquise cut lab grown diamond in a six claw head with a hidden halo underneath, set on a wide domed cigar band. This is a deliberate mismatch of proportions and it is why the ring works. A marquise is the narrowest, most elongated shape in the collection, and the usual instinct is to give it a slim shank to match. Putting it on a broad cigar band instead sets a long delicate stone against a solid mass of metal, so each makes the other more noticeable. The hidden halo sits between them, adding a bright line at the base where stone meets band. E colour, VVS2 clarity throughout, free IGI certificate for the centre stone. A cigar band shows a great deal of metal, so the colour defines this ring more than the stone shape does. Yellow gold makes it read as a solid gold object carrying a diamond, white gold keeps it cool and lets the marquise dominate. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds a broad polished dome free of scratches for longer.

What is a cigar band?
A wide band of even width all the way around, named for its resemblance to the paper band on a cigar. It gives a substantial modern look and spreads pressure comfortably across the finger.

Does a wide band suit a marquise?
It is an unconventional pairing and that is the appeal. The contrast between a very narrow stone and a very broad band makes both read more strongly than either would on its own.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the base of the centre stone facing outward. From above you see only the marquise. From the side it shows as a bright collar underneath.

Are the points fragile?
The two tips are the thinnest part of any marquise, which is why each sits under a V shaped claw that wraps both edges. Protected that way it is suitable for everyday wear.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
