A marquise cut lab grown diamond bezel set east to west and sunk flush into the face of a smooth domed band. There is no head, no claws and nothing raised above the surface of the metal at all. The stone sits inside a bezel that is itself recessed into the dome, so running a finger over the ring you feel almost no transition between gold and diamond. That is a genuinely unusual construction and it produces a ring that looks more like a solid object with a diamond set into it than a stone mounted on a shank. Turning the marquise sideways completes the effect, laying its long axis along the curve of the band rather than across it. Nothing protrudes, nothing catches. A domed band with a flush set stone shows more metal than any other design in the collection, so the colour is effectively the whole piece. Yellow gold gives a solid, almost sculptural object with a bright inset, white gold makes the diamond and the band read as one continuous surface. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps a broad polished dome free of scratches for longer.

Frequently asked questions

What does flush set mean?
The stone sits level with the surface of the metal rather than raised above it in a head. Nothing protrudes at all, which makes it the most snag proof setting there is and the reason flush set rings suit hands that work.

Is a marquise safe set this way?
Yes, in fact this is the most protective option for the shape. The two points, which are the most vulnerable part of any marquise, are completely enclosed by the bezel rim rather than gripped by claws.

What does east west mean?
The stone is set with its long axis running across the finger rather than along it. On a marquise, which is the longest of all the shapes, it is an immediately noticeable and deliberately modern choice.

Does the flush setting reduce sparkle?
Somewhat less light enters from the sides than in a claw setting. In exchange you get a completely smooth ring with nothing to catch, and the broad metal surround reflects light back into the stone.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
