Two bands, one ring

The shank circles the finger, passes beneath itself and returns, so from the side you see two fine parallel lines rather than one. It gives the ring visual weight without making the metal heavy, and it means a second band is already built in: you can wear this on its own and it does not look as though something is missing.

The angle

The marquise is set neither along the finger nor straight across it, but on a diagonal. That is a deliberate choice: the tilt follows the direction of the wrap, so the stone and the band read as one motion. It also means the ring looks different depending on which way you turn your hand.

Both points guarded

A marquise has two tips, the thinnest and most vulnerable part of the stone. Each sits inside a v claw that wraps around the edges either side of the point rather than pressing down on it.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is photographed here, and two fine warm lines under a colourless stone is the contrast the design is built on. On a wrap band we would suggest 10K or 14K, which are harder alloys and keep the two lines parallel over time. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The wrap is formed to your finger size so the two lines sit evenly spaced, which is a matter of a fraction of a millimetre and cannot be adjusted afterwards. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Run the brush between the two bands, which is the one place on this ring that does not rinse clean on its own. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight.

Is it one ring or two? One. The double line is formed from a single continuous band that passes itself, not two rings stacked.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it? Not flat, because the shank is already doubled and curved. Most customers wear this one alone, which is what the built in second line is for.

Can it be resized? Only slightly, since resizing changes how the two lines overlap. Please measure carefully and we will build to your size.
