Two lab grown diamonds of different shapes, a marquise and a pear, each claw set at one end of a band that never joins. The shank is open. It comes up either side of the finger and stops, with a stone at each tip and a visible gap between them. That gap is the whole design. On a conventional toi et moi the two stones sit side by side on a closed shank, touching or nearly touching, and read as one setting. Here they are held apart and face each other across open space, so the ring is as much about the distance between the diamonds as about the diamonds themselves. Two shapes rather than a matched pair keeps each one distinct. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificates. Made to order in Surat in ten metals and four carat weights.

Band details

An open band that does not close. It curves up on both sides of the finger and terminates in the two settings, leaving a deliberate gap at the top. Plain polished metal with no stones set into the shank. Because it is open, the ring has a small amount of natural give and sits comfortably across a range close to your chosen size.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. The two bare arms of the shank are a large part of what you see, so metal colour matters. Yellow and rose gold make the open form read as a strong sculptural line. White gold and sterling silver make the arms recede so the two diamonds appear to float apart.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. An open band flexes very slightly, but it is still made to your measurement and should not be forced open or closed. Ask us for a free size guide if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

What does toi et moi mean?
French for you and me. Two stones set together to represent two people, a design associated with Napoleon's proposal to Josephine and revived heavily in recent years.

How is this different from your closed band toi et moi rings?
On those the two stones sit adjacent on a continuous shank and read as a single setting. This band is open, so the stones are held apart at the two free ends with a visible gap between them.

Is an open band secure to wear?
Yes. It is made from solid metal in a gauge heavy enough to hold its shape. It should not be squeezed or prised to adjust the fit, as repeated flexing will weaken any open shank.

Why two different shapes?
A marquise and a pear both have a point, so they echo each other while staying clearly distinct. Matched pairs are available if you prefer symmetry.

Can I wear a wedding band with it?
An open ring does not sit flush against a straight band. Most customers wear it alone or stacked with a fine band below. We can make a matching open band on request.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Free IGI certification is included with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut grade and carat weight.
