A heart cut lab grown diamond held in five claws, on a fine band with pave running down both shoulders. The heart is the hardest of all the fancy shapes to cut well and the easiest to get wrong, which is why so few are made. The two lobes must be identical, the cleft between them must be sharp and centred, and the point at the bottom must line up exactly with that cleft. A millimetre of asymmetry anywhere and the stone stops looking like a heart and starts looking like a mistake. Ours are cut to Excellent symmetry for that reason. The setting is kept deliberately quiet, a fine pave band and five slender claws, because a heart is already saying something and does not need help. Free IGI certificate for the centre stone. Accent stones and band

Round brilliant pave diamonds run down both shoulders of a fine band, each in its own raised bead of metal. The pave stops before the base so the lower shank stays plain polished metal and the ring can be resized.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, keeps everything colourless so the outline of the heart is as crisp as possible. Rose gold is the obvious romantic pairing and warms the whole ring. Yellow gold gives the most traditional look.

Frequently asked questions

Why are heart cut diamonds uncommon?
Because they are the most demanding shape to cut. The two lobes must match exactly, the cleft must be sharp and central, and the bottom point must align with it. Small errors are immediately visible in a way they are not on an oval or cushion.

What should I look for in a heart cut?
Symmetry above everything. Look at whether the lobes are the same size and height, whether the cleft is a defined V rather than a rounded dip, and whether the point sits directly below it. We cut to Excellent symmetry as standard.

Why five claws?
One V shaped claw caps the bottom point, which is the most vulnerable part of the stone, and two claws hold each lobe. That combination keeps the cleft clear so the shape reads properly from above.

Does a heart look smaller than other shapes?
Slightly, for its carat weight, because some of the weight sits in the depth of the lobes. Going up one carat step is worth considering if size matters to you.

Is a heart practical for daily wear?
Reasonably, provided the point is protected as it is here. It has one vulnerable point rather than the two of a marquise.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond is chemically and optically the same as a mined one, graded on the same scales by the same laboratories, at a fraction of the price. That gap is especially useful for a heart, because well cut hearts are scarce in mined material and carry a premium for the cutting skill involved.
