A heart shaped lab grown diamond claw set on a band with pave running down both shoulders. The heart is the most demanding shape a cutter can attempt and the least forgiving to set. Its two lobes must match each other exactly or the whole outline looks wrong, the cleft between them has to be sharp and centred, and the point at the base needs a V shaped claw to protect it in the same way a pear does. Get any of those wrong and the shape stops reading as a heart at all. Set correctly, as here, it is the only diamond shape that is instantly recognisable as a symbol rather than a geometry, and the pave shoulders keep the attention travelling toward it rather than sitting anywhere else on the ring. Because the outline is the whole point of a heart, the claws are kept minimal and the metal reads mainly at the shoulders. Rose gold is the natural pairing for this shape and is the most requested, yellow gold gives it a warmer traditional feel, white gold keeps the silhouette as crisp as possible. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and better protects the V claw at the point.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a good heart cut?
Symmetry above everything. The two lobes must be the same size and shape as each other, the cleft between them sharp and centred, and the point aligned with that cleft. Poor symmetry is far more visible in a heart than in any other shape.

Is the point fragile?
The point at the base is the vulnerable part, exactly as with a pear, which is why it sits inside a V shaped claw that wraps and covers it completely.

What carat weight suits a heart?
Larger is genuinely better with this shape. Below about one carat the lobes and cleft become hard to read and the outline blurs, which is why our range starts at two carats.

Which way should it face?
Traditionally the point faces the wearer and the lobes face outward, so it reads correctly to the person looking at your hand. We can set it either way.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Close to it. The point sits low over the shank, so a flat band rests neatly beneath, though a shaped band pairs most cleanly with the pave.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
