Past the last pear the band goes plain and rounded. All the work is at the front of the ring.

Our marquise and round accent V gallery emerald ring uses four small stones a side in a simple line. This one uses five, adds a pear at the outer end and mixes three shapes instead of two, so the shoulders read as a spray rather than a row. It is noticeably wider at the head and better suited to someone who wants the ring to look larger than its centre stone.

Mixed brilliant accents scatter light in every direction. An emerald cut does the opposite, holding still. That contrast is the reason this arrangement works with a step cut and looks busy with a round centre stone.

Wearing and stacking

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Ten accent seats in three different shapes are cut one at a time, and the pear at each end has to be aligned so the two sides mirror each other exactly. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 14 to 18 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Work the brush between the claws of the cluster from underneath, and take care around the points of the marquise and pear. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Their points are the thinnest part of any stone, which is why each one is tucked under its own claw and angled inward rather than left exposed at the edge of the ring.
