The accents on this ring step outward rather than cluster. Next to the centre stone sit two small rounds, one above the other. Past them lies a marquise laid flat along the shoulder, and beyond its point a single tiny round finishes the run before the band goes plain.

Underneath, the metal narrows into a V that meets at a point below the stone. From the front the ring looks like a slim band with a scatter of light on each side; from the side you see the V holding everything up.

How it compares

Our petite marquise and round cluster ring keeps its accents packed together right against the girdle, with the marquise as the last stone on each side. This one spreads the same stones further along the shoulder and finishes with a small round bud past the marquise point, so the accent run reaches closer to the finger. The V gallery underneath is also open in a way the cluster ring is not.

An emerald cut trades sparkle for clarity of shape. The long step facets give slow, wide flashes rather than scattered fire, which is why the small brilliant accents beside it read as bright points instead of competing with the centre.

Wearing and stacking

The band is plain past the accents, so a straight wedding band sits flush at the back. At the front it will meet the ring just below the last small round.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The four accent seats on each side are cut one at a time so the marquise lies flat against the curve of the shoulder rather than standing proud of it. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 10 to 14 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Brush along the shoulders in the direction the stones run, then through the open V from underneath. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
