The interest in this ring is entirely at the head, and it works because of a contradiction. A step cut like an emerald has an open table and slow broad flashes, so from above it reads as a calm rectangle of light. Setting a hidden halo underneath it does nothing to that view. What it changes is the profile. Look from the side and there is a fine bright line running the whole way round the base of the stone where none would otherwise be, which lifts the diamond visually off the finger and stops the deep pavilion of a large emerald cut from reading as a solid dark block. The split claws do the same job at the corners, since each one divides into two fine points that grip the bevelled corner without covering it, so the outline of the rectangle stays unbroken. The band is left plain because anything on it would compete with the hidden halo, and the design depends on that line being the only detail below the stone.

Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness and optical behaviour as a mined diamond and is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Can you see the hidden halo when wearing the ring
The wearer sees it whenever the hand tilts. Looking straight down it disappears completely under the emerald cut, which is the point of the design.

Why is the band plain
So the hidden halo is the only line of small stones on the ring. Pave on the shoulders would repeat it and the profile would lose its effect.
