A generous emerald cut moissanite between two pear cut side stones, each turned on its side with the point running out along the shoulder. The side stones here are scaled up and set close, so all three read as one wide horizontal jewel across the finger, and the shank tapers as it leaves the head so the metal disappears behind the stones.

Why this ring works

Most three stone rings put the side stones in line with the centre and leave a visible gap. Setting the pears east west and pushing them up against the emerald cut closes that gap and turns three stones into one continuous shape. Because a pear is widest at the round end, the widest part sits next to the centre stone and the taper carries outward, which flatters a long rectangular centre. The tapering shank does the same job in metal, narrowing so the eye keeps moving inward rather than stopping at the band.

Side stones and band

One pear cut colorless moissanite sits east west on each side of the centre stone, round end against the emerald cut and point running out along the shoulder, held by prongs at the tip and the belly. Side stone size scales with the centre stone you choose. The shank tapers from approximately two millimetres at the back to a narrower profile where it meets the head. Metal is solid throughout with a polished interior.

Choose from recycled 925 sterling silver, or solid 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. Yellow gold, as photographed, is the classic pairing for a three stone ring. Rose gold makes it warmer and softer. White gold and sterling silver keep all three stones reading as cold and colorless. White gold is rhodium finished.

Care

Clean with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, paying attention to the join between the pears and the centre stone where dust settles. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. Check the prong on each pear point once a year. Remove the ring before swimming, gardening or lifting weights.

How is this different from a standard three stone ring? The pears are set east west, sideways rather than in line, and pushed close against the centre stone, so the three stones read as a single wide shape rather than three separate elements.

Does the tapered band make the stone look bigger? Yes. Narrowing the shank toward the head removes metal from directly beside the centre stone, so there is less for the eye to compare it against.
