Step facets were developed specifically for emerald because the long flat planes show colour across the whole table rather than breaking it into small flashes, and a plain narrow band lets that colour read at full strength with no metal or accent stone competing for attention.

Band details

The shank is a fine polished round wire, plain from end to end. It is the lightest band we make and the easiest to resize. The gallery under the emerald is left open so light passes through the pavilion, which matters more with a coloured stone than a white one because it is what keeps the green bright rather than dark.

Choose 925 sterling silver with rhodium plating, or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Rose gold gives the soft blush contrast shown in the photographs, an unusual and very current pairing with green. Yellow gold is the traditional choice and reads warmest. What is a lab grown emerald
It is a genuine emerald, beryl coloured by chromium or vanadium, grown in controlled conditions instead of being mined. It has the same chemistry, hardness and colour as a natural emerald, usually with fewer inclusions.

Does it come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the centre stone is included at no extra cost with every order.

Why is the emerald cut used for emeralds
The cut was developed for this stone. Emerald is more brittle than diamond, so cropping the corners removes the most vulnerable points, and the long step facets show the colour evenly across the table.

How hard is an emerald compared with a diamond
Emerald sits at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale against 10 for diamond. It is a stone for daily wear but not for heavy manual work. Take the ring off before the gym or gardening.

How should I clean it
Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush. Do not use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner on emerald, as heat and vibration can open fine surface reaching inclusions.

Can I wear a wedding band beside it
Yes. The shank is straight and plain, so a plain or pave band sits flush on either side with no gap.
