An emerald cut lab grown diamond in four claws above an open tulip gallery, on a domed comfort fit band with no stones set into it.

The tulip is the detail that separates this from a plain solitaire. Instead of a flat basket, the metal under the stone is shaped into four curved petals that rise from the shank and sweep outward before turning up into the claws, leaving open windows between them. It is an old jewellers form, borrowed from the shape of a flower opening, and it exists for two reasons. It removes weight from underneath a large stone so the head does not look heavy, and it lets light in from beneath the pavilion, which matters on a step cut where the light comes back in broad flat flashes rather than fast fire.

The band is domed rather than flat, which means the outside is gently rounded and the inside is comfort fit, curved so it sits on a cushion of air rather than gripping the finger squarely. It is a fuller and softer band than a knife edge shank, and it suits the weight of a two to five carat stone. Nothing is set into it anywhere.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate

What is a tulip gallery
The metal beneath the stone is shaped into four curved petals with open windows between them, rather than being left as a solid basket. It lightens the head and lets light reach the pavilion from below.

What does comfort fit mean
The inside of the band is curved rather than flat, so it rests on the finger without gripping at the edges. Most people find a comfort fit band easier to wear all day.

Does an open gallery make the ring less secure
No. The four petals are structural and each one carries a claw. Openwork removes metal that was doing no work, not metal that was holding the stone.

Do emerald cuts show inclusions more than other shapes
Yes. The open step facets hide far less than a brilliant does, which is why we use VVS2 clarity for the centre stone.

Will a wedding band sit flush
Yes. The shank is straight either side of the head, so a matching comfort fit band meets it cleanly.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, easily. The band is plain and unset all the way around.

How is this different from your other emerald cut solitaires
