An emerald cut lab grown diamond is held in four claws at its cropped corners on a fine band whose edges are worked into milgrain, a row of tiny metal beads applied by hand with a knurling wheel. It is the only decoration on the ring and it is deliberately quiet. Milgrain softens the line where metal meets skin and gives an antique quality to what is otherwise a very modern, very geometric setting. The step cut facets of the emerald do the rest, giving broad flashes of light rather than small sparks.

Band details

The shank is a fine band with milgrain beading worked along both edges and a plain polished face between them. No stones are set into it. Milgrain is applied by hand, which is why no two rings carry an identical bead pattern, and it can be re-cut during a service if you ever want it sharpened.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver with rhodium plating, or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is the traditional metal for milgrain work and gives the warm antique look shown in the photographs. White gold, rhodium finished, makes the beading crisper and the diamond read a shade whiter. Rose gold gives the softest period feel. Every metal is hallmarked and every carat weight is available in every metal.

Is the centre stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically identical to a mined diamond and is graded on the same scale by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the centre stone is included at no extra cost with every order.

Why does an emerald cut look different from other diamonds
It is a step cut, meaning its facets are long parallel planes rather than small triangles. Instead of many small sparks it gives broad flashes of light, an effect the trade calls the hall of mirrors.

Why is clarity more important on an emerald cut
The open table and long facets make inclusions easier to see than in a brilliant cut. That is why we supply every emerald cut at VVS2 as standard rather than a lower grade.

What is milgrain
A row of tiny metal beads worked along the edge of a band. It comes from Edwardian and Art Deco jewellery and softens the transition between metal and skin, giving a handmade appearance.

Can I wear a wedding band beside it
Yes. The shank is straight, so a plain or milgrain band sits flush on either side. A matching milgrain band is the most popular pairing.
