An emerald cut lab grown diamond in four ball tipped claws on a vintage style band, with small round diamonds bead set along the top of each shoulder inside milgrain borders, and hand engraved scrollwork running along the outer sides of the shank.

There are three separate pieces of hand work on this band and each one does something different. The pave gives light along the top, the milgrain borders on either side of the pave soften the edges and stop the row of diamonds looking like a hard channel, and the engraved scrollwork on the flanks catches light at an angle so the ring stays alive when you see it from the side.

That side engraving is the detail most modern rings leave out. It is cut into the metal with a graver rather than cast in, which is why the lines have crisp bright walls instead of soft rounded edges. It costs time and it is invisible in photographs taken from directly above, but it is the reason antique rings look different in the hand.

The setting itself is deliberately simple so the band can carry the decoration. Four rounded claws, a low open basket, and an emerald cut sitting close to the finger with its long step cut facets clear of any obstruction.

Band details

A flat sided band of even width with engraved scroll patterns worked into the outer faces on both sides, milgrain along the borders and a smooth polished interior. The palm side is left plain.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright cool white. Yellow gold shows engraving and milgrain most clearly, which is why antique pieces of this style were usually made in it.

Is the center stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond. The only difference is where it was grown.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Is the engraving cut by hand
Yes, the scrollwork is cut into the metal with a graver by one of our engravers. That is why the lines have bright angled walls that reflect light, which cast decoration cannot reproduce.

Will the engraving wear away
Not quickly. It is cut to a real depth, not scratched on. Over decades of daily wear the high points soften, and we can recut the pattern for you during a service if you ever want it sharpened.

Can this ring be resized later
Within a size or two. The engraving and pave run along the shoulders, so a jeweller works with the plain section underneath. First resizing is free.

How is this different from your other vintage rings
Our hand engraved scroll milgrain ring has engraving but no accent diamonds. Our carved filigree ring uses pierced openwork instead of engraving. This design combines bead set pave along the top with engraved scrollwork on the sides, so it is decorated from every angle.

Does a wedding band sit flush against it
Yes. The band is straight and the setting is low, so a plain or milgrain edged band sits neatly beside it. A matching milgrain band suits it particularly well.

How do I clean it
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Do not use polishing cloths on the milgrain, because repeated polishing flattens the beading over time.

Which metal should I choose
Yellow gold for a true antique look, rose gold for something warmer and softer, white gold or sterling silver if you want the engraving to read as texture rather than colour.
