The band is broad and thick with a rounded outer face, closer in weight to a signet than to the thin shank most solitaires sit on, and beneath the stone a rectangular hidden halo of small diamonds follows the emerald cut's outline exactly. Looking down at the ring you see only a long clean rectangle on a substantial band. Turn it and the halo appears in profile as a fine line of light between the stone and all that gold, which is what stops the weight of the band from swallowing the head. A cigar band carries far more metal than a standard shank, so colour is the loudest thing about this ring after the stone. Yellow and rose gold make it a bold gold statement with a bright collar under the diamond, white gold keeps the weight but quiets it. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps a broad polished dome free of dents.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cigar band?
A wide, thick band with a rounded outer face, named for its resemblance to a cigar band. It carries considerably more metal than a standard shank and gives a solitaire a heavier, architectural presence.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the underside of the centre stone, below the girdle. It is invisible from above and only appears from the side. Here it is rectangular so it follows the emerald cut's outline.

Why add a hidden halo to a heavy band?
A wide band puts a lot of metal directly beneath the stone. The halo breaks that mass with a line of light at the girdle, so the head reads as lifted rather than sunk into the shank.

Does a wide band fit differently?
Yes. A wide band contacts more of the finger, so it feels tighter than a thin band of the same nominal size. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.

Why does an emerald cut show clarity so clearly?
Its long open step facets act like windows into the stone rather than scattering light. That is why we set only VVS2 in this shape.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
