An emerald cut lab grown diamond framed by a full halo of round pave diamonds that follows the rectangular outline of the stone, on a band pave set for three quarters of its circumference.

A halo around a step cut has to be built differently from a halo around a round. The frame here is not a circle of stones but a rectangle with softened corners, laid out so the run of pave along each long side is straight and parallel to the girdle of the emerald cut, and so the corners turn in a tight arc rather than a hard point. Done properly it repeats the shape of the centre stone instead of fighting it, and it makes the head read considerably larger than the stone alone. A two carat emerald cut in this setting has roughly the face up presence of a three carat stone set plain.

The band continues the same size of pave from the halo down both shoulders and around three quarters of the finger, closing into plain polished metal at the back where a ring takes its wear. Because the halo stones and the band stones are the same scale, the whole ring reads as one continuous field of light with the emerald cut as a still rectangle at the centre of it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

How much bigger does a halo make the stone look
On this setting the head reads roughly a carat larger than the centre stone alone, because the halo adds about a millimetre and a half of diamond around the full outline.

Is a halo hard to keep clean
It needs cleaning more often than a plain setting because there are more small stones and more metal edges. Warm soapy water and a soft brush is enough, and we clean and check it free of charge for life.

Why is the halo rectangular rather than round
Because the centre stone is. A halo around a step cut has to repeat its outline, with straight parallel runs along the long sides and tight arcs at the corners, or it fights the shape it is framing.

Do emerald cuts show inclusions more than other shapes
Yes. The open step facets hide far less than a brilliant does, which is why we use VVS2 clarity for the centre stone.

Will a wedding band sit flush
Not entirely, because the halo extends beyond the shank. We recommend a contoured band cut to follow the halo and can quote for it with the ring.

Can this ring be resized
Within a modest range, using the plain quarter at the back of the shank.

How is this different from your hidden halo emerald cut rings
A hidden halo sits below the table and cannot be seen from above. This is a visible halo, which changes the outline of the head and makes the ring look considerably larger.
