An emerald cut lab grown diamond held by four slim claws on a plain polished band. This is the most stripped back way to set a step cut and, for a lot of buyers, the only way. An emerald cut is not built to sparkle like a round brilliant. Its long parallel facets throw wide flashes of light and create the effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors, and that effect depends on the stone being seen clearly, without pave or halo work drawing attention away from the geometry. Because the table is large and open, clarity is visible in a way it never is in a brilliant, which is why we set these at VVS2 where nothing shows to the naked eye. Emerald cuts show body colour more readily than brilliant cuts because of that open table, so if you want the stone to read as icy as possible choose a white metal. Frequently asked questions

Why does clarity matter more in an emerald cut?
An emerald cut has a large open table and relatively few facets, so there is nowhere for an inclusion to hide. In a round brilliant the sparkle masks small flaws. That is why we set these at VVS2, where nothing is visible to the naked eye.

Does an emerald cut sparkle less?
It sparkles differently rather than less. A round scatters light into many small flashes. An emerald cut throws broad flashes from its long parallel facets, which reads as cleaner and more architectural. It is a matter of preference, not quality.

Does an emerald cut look bigger for its weight?
Usually yes. The shape spreads its carat weight across a longer, wider outline, so it presents more surface area face up than a round of the same weight, and the elongated form flatters the finger.

Are four claws enough for an emerald cut?
Yes. The claws grip the cropped corners, which are the strongest points on the stone and are designed for exactly this purpose. That is why emerald cuts have their corners cut off in the first place.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
