An emerald cut lab grown diamond is held in corner claws on a basket whose walls splay outward as they descend, so that from the side the setting reads as a small flared cup rather than a straight box. Below it the shank is scalloped into milgrain edged bays, each carrying a diamond, running down toward a plain lower band.

The flare is the part of this ring that only exists in profile, and it is deliberate. A straight sided basket presents a flat wall of metal to anyone looking at the ring from the side, which on a stone this size is a considerable amount of blank gold. Splaying the walls outward opens a view into the pavilion from every side angle, so the light that enters the crown and reflects downward can be seen escaping through the sides of the stone rather than being stopped by the setting. It changes what the ring does when the hand moves: from directly above it behaves like any well made emerald cut, returning broad plates of white light, but as the hand tilts the flared basket keeps returning brightness from the lower half of the stone long after the table has gone dark. The scalloped band then repeats the same logic in miniature, each bay opening outward around its accent so no stone sits in a closed pocket.

Band details

The shank is narrow, scalloped along its upper half into a series of shallow bays with milgrain worked around each opening, and left plain below. Scalloping the band exposes more of each accent from the side than a flat shank would, which is why a very slim band can still read as bright.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

What does a flared basket do
It opens the sides of the setting so light can leave the pavilion of the stone at an angle. The ring stays bright as the hand tilts away from the light rather than going dark.

Does an open basket make the ring less secure
No. The claws hold the stone; the basket sets the height and carries the claws. An open construction of the right thickness is as strong as a closed one and considerably easier to keep clean.

What is milgrain

Can this ring be resized
Yes. The lower half of the shank is plain, so resizing is done in clean metal.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. The basket and the milgrain are worked by hand, so production usually takes twelve to sixteen working days before dispatch.
