The shank divides into a pair of identical polished rails that run around the finger with an open gap between them, then rejoin at the stone, which is claw set lengthways across the finger rather than up and down it. Two decisions are doing all the work here. Setting an emerald cut east to west puts its long axis across the hand instead of along it, which reads as deliberate and modern rather than traditional. A split band is a design made entirely of metal and empty space, so the colour choice defines it completely.
