An elongated radiant cut lab grown diamond held by four slender claws on a plain slim band. No halo, no hidden halo, no pave, no engraving. This is the strictest version of a solitaire we make and it is a harder ring to get right than a decorated one, because there is nothing to look at except the stone and the line of the metal. The claws are kept narrow and set at the corners so they cover as little of the diamond as possible. The basket is open underneath so light passes straight through the pavilion. The band is a thin polished round, chosen so that the eye reads the diamond as wide by comparison. If the centre stone is doing the work, this is the setting that lets it. Band details

A slim round band with a high polish, unbroken the whole way around, with no stones set anywhere on the ring except the centre. The gallery beneath the head is left completely open. This is the lightest and lowest profile setting in our range.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives a warm contrast that makes a colourless diamond look brighter. White gold and sterling silver disappear against the stone so the diamond looks as though it is floating. Rose gold gives the warmest, softest effect.

We can add a hidden halo, pave the shoulders, change to a knife edge or flat band, or change the centre to oval, emerald or cushion. Moissanite and coloured gemstone centres are also available. Frequently asked questions

What is an elongated radiant cut?
A rectangle with cut corners and a brilliant faceting pattern beneath. It has the clean outline of an emerald cut but returns light in bright small flashes like a round. Cutting it long rather than square flatters the finger and makes the stone look larger for its weight.

Why choose a plain band over pave?
Three practical reasons. It costs less for the same centre stone, so more of your budget goes into carat weight. It resizes easily. And it sits flush against any wedding band without pave rubbing on pave.

Does a plain solitaire make the diamond look smaller?
The opposite. With nothing else on the ring competing for attention, and a deliberately narrow band for scale, the centre stone reads as large as it possibly can.

Is there a hidden halo on this ring?
No. The basket is completely plain and open. If you want a hidden halo we can add one as a custom order.

Are four claws enough for a large stone?
Yes for a radiant. The corners of a radiant are cut off rather than pointed, so a claw at each corner grips a flat facet edge, which is a stronger hold than gripping a point.

What is the difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond?
Only where it was made. A lab grown diamond is carbon in the same crystal structure with the same hardness, refractive index and grading scales. IGI grades both the same way.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut and carat weight.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond is chemically and optically the same as a mined one, graded on the same scales by the same laboratories, at a fraction of the price. On a plain setting like this one, almost the whole price is the stone, which is why a VVS2 E colour elongated radiant at 4 or 5 carat is possible here at all. It is grown rather than excavated, so there is no mining involved and the origin is never in question.
