What does east west mean on an engagement ring

East west describes a stone rotated ninety degrees from the usual position, so an elongated shape lies across the finger instead of pointing up and down it. On a radiant the effect is to make the diamond look wider and the setting sit lower, so it catches on clothing less than a tall north south solitaire. It is still uncommon enough to look considered rather than copied.

What is a half bezel setting

A half bezel, sometimes called a partial bezel, wraps metal around only part of the stone, leaving the remaining edges open. It gives most of the protection and the flush modern look of a full bezel while showing more of the diamond and letting more light in from the open sides.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

What is a radiant cut diamond

A radiant is a rectangular or square stone with cropped corners and brilliant style faceting. It combines the elegant outline of an emerald cut with the fire of a round brilliant, scattering light in many small bursts rather than the broad flashes of a step cut. The trimmed corners also make it more robust than a sharp cornered shape, and they are the points the half bezel covers here.

Does an east west setting suit every finger

It behaves differently from a north south stone. A north south radiant elongates the finger, while an east west stone emphasises width across the hand, which many people find flattering on longer fingers in particular. Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat radiant centre realistic on a normal budget. That matters especially on an east west setting, where the width of the stone across the finger is the whole point.
