East West Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring Set into a Wide Flat Band

The band is not a shank that carries a setting, it is the setting. It runs at a substantial width the whole way round, flat across its outer face with squared edges, and the diamond is set down into that face rather than raised above it on a head. Turning the oval east to west is what makes the arrangement work. Set north to south the stone would run across the narrow dimension of the band and overhang both edges; laid sideways it runs along the band, so its length sits comfortably within the metal width and the whole thing reads as one solid object with a diamond inset into it. The claws are kept deliberately small and low for the same reason. Anything taller would break the flat plane of the band, which is the feature the design depends on. The result is closer to a signet ring or a modern wedding band with a stone set into it than to a conventional engagement ring, and it sits very low and snag free on the hand.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What does east west setting mean
The oval is turned sideways so its long axis runs across the finger rather than along it. Here it is done so the stone lies along the width of the band rather than overhanging its edges.

How is this different from your other east west oval rings
One sets the oval into a solid domed disc with star point claws, another places it at the apex of a chevron pavé band. This one sets it low into the flat face of a wide plain band.

Why are the claws so small
Anything taller would break the flat plane of the band, which is the feature the whole design depends on. Low claws keep the stone reading as inset rather than mounted.

Is it comfortable to wear
Very. The stone sits low with nothing projecting, so it does not catch on clothing, and the interior is comfort rounded. Wide bands do wear slightly tighter than fine ones.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it
Yes, and a plain band of similar width pairs particularly well, because the two read as a matched pair.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, though on a wide band we prefer to remake at the correct size rather than cut and rejoin, because a wide shank shows a sizing joint more than a fine one does.
