East West Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring on a Milgrain Station Band in Rose Gold

An oval lab grown diamond set across the finger, held in split claws above an open V shaped gallery, on a band of milgrain edged stations each carrying a small diamond. Rose gold throughout.

The gallery is the part worth looking at from the side. Instead of a closed box under the stone, two arms rise from the shank and cross beneath the pavilion in a shallow V, meeting at a single point before the claws branch outward. Almost nothing sits under the diamond, so light passes straight through the setting rather than stopping at a floor of metal, and the underside of the stone can be reached with a cloth. The V also solves a problem specific to an east west stone: turned sideways, an oval is at its widest exactly where the shank is narrowest, so a conventional basket has to bridge a considerable span. Crossing two arms instead of building four walls spans it with less metal and less weight, and puts the join directly beneath the centre of the stone where the load actually falls. The milgrain stations along the band are then a deliberate contrast, an old fashioned repeat under a setting that is essentially structural.

Band details

The shank is fine, worked into a repeat of milgrain edged stations each holding a single accent, with plain wire between them. Because the gallery carries the stone, the band itself is not structural and can stay as light as it looks.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Rose gold is shown in the photographs, and its copper content makes it the hardest of the three golds, which suits a design with this much fine detail on the band.

Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

The stone is set with its long axis across the finger rather than along it, so the ring reads horizontally and the diamond appears wider.

What is a V gallery
Two arms rising from the shank and crossing beneath the stone in a shallow V rather than a closed basket. It uses less metal, lets light through from below and is easier to keep clean.

Why rose gold for this design
The copper in rose gold makes it the hardest of the three gold colours, which helps on a band carrying fine milgrain and many small settings.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. The milgrain is applied by hand, so production usually takes fourteen to eighteen working days before dispatch.
