East West Marquise Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring in a Sculpted Wave Bypass Band

A marquise cut lab grown diamond laid east west across the finger and nested into a band that rises and falls in a single sculpted wave. The shank is not a plain circle with a setting placed on top of it. It broadens and lifts on one side, dips through the middle where the diamond lies, and rises again on the other, so the metal itself forms the seat for the stone. Only two small V tips grip the points of the marquise. Everything else that holds the diamond is the wave, which is why almost no metal interrupts the stone when you look down at it. Setting the marquise east west rather than up and down lays its full length along the finger, which makes it read wider and softer than a north south marquise. Band details

A solid band that swells and curves through a single wave, wide and flat across the top where it cradles the diamond and tapering to a slim rounded profile at the back of the finger. No stones are set into it. The whole design is carried by the shape of the metal.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Because this ring is mostly polished metal, the colour choice defines it more than on any stone set design. Yellow and rose gold make the wave read as a bold sculpted form. White gold and sterling silver make the metal recede so that the marquise appears to float across the finger.

Frequently asked questions

What does east west setting mean?
The long axis of the stone runs across the finger instead of along it. On a marquise this fills the width of the finger and gives a wider, more modern look than the traditional north south orientation.

How is this different from a claw set marquise solitaire?
A claw set solitaire lifts the stone above a plain round shank on four or six prongs. Here the shank itself is sculpted into a wave that the diamond sits inside, held only by two V tips, so the ring reads as one continuous piece of metal rather than a stone on a band.

Are the points of a marquise fragile?
The points are the most vulnerable part of any marquise, which is why they are protected here by V tips that wrap over them rather than by simple round claws.

Does this ring sit flat against a wedding band?
Not flush, because of the wave. Most customers wear it on its own or with a curved contour band. We can make a matching contour band on request.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
