A cushion cut lab grown diamond in four claws, with a small round and then a pear shaped diamond stepping away from it on each shoulder, on a fine plain band. Three stone shapes appear on one ring and none of them repeats the centre.

Mixing shapes on the shoulders is harder than repeating one. Identical accents read as a pattern and the eye passes over them, but a round next to a pear sets up a comparison, and if the proportions are wrong the comparison is what you notice instead of the centre stone. The order used here is deliberate. The round sits closest to the cushion because a round has no direction, so it works as a neutral pause between the square-ish outline of the centre and the strong axis of the pear. The pear then sits further out with its point turned away down the shank, which continues the line the shoulder is already travelling. Reverse the two and the pear's point would collide with the centre stone's corner, and the whole shoulder would look crowded even though nothing had changed in size.
