An asscher cut lab grown diamond turned forty five degrees so it stands on a corner, set low into the face of a broad flat cigar band. An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, the square cousin of the emerald cut, and its facets run inward in concentric squares toward the table so the stone draws the eye down into itself rather than throwing sparkle outward. Turning it onto its corner sets that inward square pattern at an angle to the straight edges of the band, so the two geometries argue with each other instead of lining up. Four claws hold it almost flush against the metal. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate. Made to order in Surat in ten metals and four carat weights.

Band details

A wide cigar band, flat across the outer face and comfortably rounded inside, of even width the whole way round. No stones, engraving or milgrain. It is a heavy band by design and the weight is part of how it wears.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. An asscher has a wide open table that picks up surrounding colour, and there is a great deal of metal in this band, so the two interact strongly. Yellow and rose gold warm the stone noticeably. White gold and sterling silver keep it cold and let the step facets read as pure geometry.

Frequently asked questions

What is an asscher cut?
A square step cut with cropped corners, developed in 1902 and closely related to the emerald cut. Its facets run in concentric squares, which produces the effect often described as looking down a hall of mirrors.

What does kite set mean?
The stone is rotated so a corner points up the finger rather than a flat edge. On a square stone this turns the outline into a diamond shape and makes the setting look deliberate rather than default.

How is this different from your other cigar band rings?
One sets an oval east west and one sets a pear at an angle. This is the only one with an asscher, and the only step cut of the three.

Does clarity matter more on an asscher?
Yes. Like an emerald cut, the large open table leaves nowhere for an inclusion to hide. VVS2 is comfortably above the level where anything would be visible.

Does a wide band feel different to wear?
Yes. It covers more of the finger and can feel snugger than a slim ring in the same nominal size.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
