Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An asscher cut moissanite in four claws on a fine band with scalloped micropave running about three quarters of the way round, and a slim hidden halo collar set beneath the stone. A short plain section remains at the base of the shank.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
This coverage is a compromise and we would rather present it as one than pretend it is the best of all worlds.
Against a half coverage band, you gain a great deal: the ring keeps catching light when your hand is turned away, and looking down at your own hand you see the stones continuing past your finger rather than stopping abruptly.
Against a full eternity, you give up a modest amount of sparkle at the very bottom of the ring, which is the part pressed against your palm and rarely seen. In exchange you keep a short plain section that can be worked on, so the ring can be resized within reason. A full eternity effectively cannot.
For most people that is the right trade, which is why three quarter coverage exists at all as a category.
We make four slim pave banded designs and the only meaningful difference is how far the stones travel round the band. Everything else follows from that.
Fine Pave Hidden Halo covers about half of each shoulder. Lightest, resizes easily, stacks flush.
Milgrain Pave also covers about half but adds beaded edges and a round accent flanking the centre on each side. The vintage minded one, and the least expensive of the four. No hidden halo.
Three Quarter Pave covers roughly three quarters. A genuine middle: far more sparkle from odd angles than the half coverage rings, and still enough plain metal at the base to be resized within reason.
Full Eternity Pave goes the whole way round. The most sparkle, and the one that can barely be resized.
Three of the four also carry a hidden halo. The Milgrain Pave is the exception.
Beneath the centre sits a single narrow row of small stones facing outward, closer to a collar than to the deeper hidden halos on some of our other designs. It is set tight under the girdle so the stone appears to sit on a thin line of light rather than on a band of it.
On a ring this fine that restraint is correct. A deep hidden halo under a delicate band makes the head look heavy from the side, which defeats the point of choosing a slim shank.
The metal between the stones is cut away in small curves, so each stone sits in its own shallow bay rather than in a straight wall. Light reaches the stones from the side as well as from above, which is why a scalloped setting sparkles more than a flush one using identical stones.
An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling, so the small brilliants supply movement the centre deliberately lacks.
Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every accent is Colorless and VVS too.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. A fine band flatters a larger stone, and this design carries 4 and 5 carat centres very well.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, which suits extended pave coverage because stones and metal read as one continuous run with no colour break. Yellow gold draws the band as a warm line beneath the stones, more visible and slightly less continuous. Rose gold is soft and pretty. Silver is the most affordable route. 10K is the hardest and holds fine beading longest, which matters when the beading travels this far. 14K is the everyday balance. 18K is the richest but softest, and on a fine extensively set band we would lean toward 14K or 10K. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We draw the fine band, cut the scalloped seats around three quarters of it, set and bead each stone, set the hidden halo collar, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, worked well round the band rather than only across the top. Clean beneath the centre, since the hidden halo collar sits where soap collects and stops working once dull. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Other designs with a hidden halo we make, so you can see the whole choice in one place:
We would rather point you to a different ring of ours than sell you the wrong one. If none of these is quite right, tell us what you are after and we will say so plainly.
Can it be resized? Within a limited range, using the plain section at the base. More than a full eternity, considerably less than a half coverage band. If your size is likely to change, our half coverage designs are the safer choice.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, reasonably. The band is fine and straight sided, and stones near the base do not affect how a second ring sits beside it.
Why not just go full eternity? Because you would lose the ability to resize for a small gain in sparkle at the least visible part of the ring. We offer the full eternity for people who want it, but for most buyers this is the more sensible version and we would rather say so.
Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
