Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An asscher cut moissanite in four claws with a square micropave halo following the octagonal outline, and micropave continuing down both shoulders of the band. Halo and shoulders together, which is the fullest coverage of any halo ring we make in this shape.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
We make a halo ring with a deliberately plain band, and it is a good ring. This is the other decision: the pave carries on past the halo and runs down each shoulder, so there is an unbroken line of light from the tip of one shoulder, around the centre, and back down the other.
The effect is that the eye never stops. On a plain banded halo you read a bright square sitting on a metal ring. Here you read one continuous object, and the halo is simply its widest point.
It also makes the ring look considerably larger on the hand than the centre stone alone would suggest, which for many people is the entire reason to choose a halo.
We make five and they are genuinely different rings.
The Pave Halo ring has the same halo on a deliberately plain band. Quieter, less expensive, easier to resize.
The Cluster Halo ring uses large individually claw set stones instead of micropave. Much heavier, and the halo stones read as individual gems.
The Lotus Petal Halo makes the outline a flower rather than a square.
The Bezel Halo puts the pave outside a solid bezel rim so centre and halo stay separate.
This one is the classic. If you picture a halo engagement ring, this is very likely the ring you are picturing, and we would rather offer it well than pretend it is unusual.
An asscher does not sparkle. It flashes in broad blocks and can look quite still. A frame of tiny brilliants supplies the movement the centre deliberately lacks, so the ring has both qualities at once: a calm centre and a lively edge.
The halo follows the octagonal outline rather than being a plain square, which matters. A true square frame around an eight sided stone leaves awkward gaps at the cropped corners.
An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors.
Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every halo and shoulder stone is Colorless and VVS too. In a halo this matters more than usual, because a ring of white accents sits directly against the centre and will show any warmth in the middle stone immediately.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. A halo adds apparent size, so a 2 carat centre here reads closer to what most people expect from 2.5 or 3 carat. If budget matters, that is the honest way to use a halo.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, which is the strongest choice for full pave coverage because there is no colour break between stones and metal, so the whole ring reads as one continuous line of light. Yellow gold draws a warm outline around every group of stones, which is handsome but interrupts the continuity this design is built on. Rose gold does the same more softly. Silver is the most affordable route. 10K is the hardest and holds fine pave beading longest, which matters when there is this much of it. 14K is the everyday balance. 18K is the richest but softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We build the halo, set every accent on the halo and both shoulders by hand, set the centre, then file and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. There are a great many stones on this ring and each is beaded individually. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Work underneath the halo, which is where dirt collects and where it dulls the sparkle fastest, and along both shoulders. Clean under the centre too, since a step cut shows anything trapped below. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Reasonably. The halo sits above the shank, though the shoulder pave runs down to about where a band would meet. A contoured band is neater. Our plain banded halo is the easier one to stack.
Can it be resized? Only within a small range. Pave runs well down both shoulders, so there is limited plain metal to work with. Please take the sizing seriously.
Does a halo really make the stone look bigger? Yes, genuinely, by increasing the overall bright area. It does not make the centre itself larger, and at close range anyone can see where the centre ends and the halo begins. We would rather say that plainly than let you feel misled later.
Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
