Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An asscher cut moissanite in four claws on a slender band that separates and crosses at each shoulder, with a short run of micropave along each crossing strand near the head and plain polished metal for the rest of the shank. It is the lightest of our crossover designs.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
On most paved crossover bands the stones run the full length of both strands. That looks handsome, costs a good deal, and puts stones on the parts of the band that spend their life against your other fingers, where nobody sees them and where they take the most wear.
This design puts pave only on the section near the head, where it frames the centre and where you actually look, and leaves the rest of the band as plain polished metal.
That is partly restraint and partly common sense. Fewer stones in the high wear zone means fewer to check over the years, and the ring costs meaningfully less than a fully paved twist while looking nearly identical from directly above.
Six of our asscher rings are built on a crossing or twisting shank, and they are genuinely different rings.
The Twisted Vine Pave ring carries pave along the full length of both strands with a cathedral head. The most decorated of the shoulder length twists.
The Milgrain Twist ring is a closed twist with pave bordered by beading. Antique in character.
The Plain Crossover ring has no stones on the band at all. The quietest and cheapest.
This one sits deliberately between the plain and the fully paved versions. Enough sparkle at the head to read as a set ring, none of the cost or upkeep of a full length pave. For a lot of people it is the sensible middle, and we would rather point that out than let you assume more pave is automatically better.
The strands are slender and the crossing is open, so daylight passes through the shoulder. That openness is what makes this read as two strands rather than as a rope, and it keeps the ring very light on the finger.
The strands taper as they approach the head, which is what allows the pave to sit on a narrowing surface without the stones appearing to crowd.
An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling.
Because the band is slender and mostly plain, the centre dominates this ring more completely than in any of our other crossover designs.
Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every accent is Colorless and VVS too.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. A slender band flatters a large centre, and this design carries 4 and 5 carat stones particularly well.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, where the short pave runs blend into the polished strands so the transition from set to plain is almost invisible, and the whole shoulder reads as one bright crossing. Yellow gold does the opposite: the boundary between the stones and the plain gold is clearly visible, which makes the design read as a deliberate short accent rather than a fading one. Both are good and they are quite different. Rose gold sits between them. Silver is the most affordable route. 10K is the hardest, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest, and on strands this fine we would gently steer you toward 14K or 10K. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We form both strands, true the crossing so the openings match on each side, set the short pave runs, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. The difficult part is the transition: the last stone has to sit so that the eye reads the pave ending on purpose rather than running out. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush worked through the crossing from both sides. Clean under the centre too, since a step cut shows anything trapped below. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Other crossover and twisted band designs we make, so you can see the whole choice in one place:
We would rather point you to a different ring of ours than sell you the wrong one. If none of these is quite right, tell us what you are after and we will say so plainly.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly. The crossing gives the shoulders an uneven lower profile, so a straight band leaves small gaps. A contoured band fits properly.
Can it be resized? Yes, more easily than our fully paved twist, because most of this shank is plain metal. That is a real practical advantage of the design.
Is a slender band strong enough? Yes. Two crossing strands brace one another, and the join at the head is solid. In 18K a very fine band will bend more readily than in 10K, which is why we suggest the harder alloys if you wear a ring hard.
Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
