Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An asscher cut moissanite in four claws on a fine band with micropave running about half the length of each shoulder, bordered along both edges with milgrain beading, and a single small round accent tucked against the centre stone on each side at the level of the girdle.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
Ordinary pave sits in a plain metal channel and reads as a clean modern line of light. Adding a row of fine beading along each edge of that channel changes its character completely: it frames the stones, softens the boundary between metal and gem, and puts the ring in antique territory without adding any bulk.
It is a small difference in construction and a large difference in how the ring looks. If you like the idea of a fine pave band but find plain pave a little stark, this is the version that solves it.
The coverage stops around halfway down each shoulder, leaving the lower band plain. That keeps the ring easy to resize and comfortable against a wedding band, and it puts the stones where they are actually seen.
At the base of the centre stone, one on each side, sits a single small round set close against the girdle. They are larger than the pave stones and sit slightly apart from the run, so they read as a deliberate pair rather than as the last two stones in the row.
Their job is to bridge the gap between the band and the centre. Without them there is a short stretch of bare metal where the shoulder meets the head, and the eye reads the stone as sitting on top of the ring. With them, the pave appears to run continuously into the centre.
It is a detail borrowed from Edwardian settings and it costs very little, which is why we would rather include it than not.
Our Fine Pave Hidden Halo ring has a similar ultra slim band with scalloped pave, but plain edges rather than milgrain, and a hidden halo beneath the stone instead of flanking accents. It is the more modern of the two.
Our Three Quarter Marquise ring covers far more of the band and alternates marquise with round.
This one is the vintage minded fine band: milgrain edges, half coverage, two flanking stones, no hidden halo. Choose it if you want antique character at a delicate scale.
An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling.
Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every accent is Colorless and VVS too. The flanking stones sit directly against the centre, so they are matched to it carefully.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The fine band flatters a larger stone, and this design carries 4 and 5 carat centres particularly well.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the beaded edges read clearly as gold borders either side of the white stones, which is what makes the milgrain worth having. White gold is cleaner and more modern, though the beading becomes subtle. Rose gold is soft and suits the vintage character. Silver is the most affordable route. 10K is the hardest and holds fine beading longest, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest and on a band this fine we would lean toward 14K or 10K. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We draw the fine band, set the pave, raise milgrain along both edges of the run, set the two flanking accents, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. Beading along the edge of a narrow pave run has to be perfectly straight, because on a fine band any wobble is obvious. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush along the beaded edges, which hold hand cream and stop reading once filled. Clean under the centre too, since a step cut shows anything trapped below. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive polish, which flattens milgrain. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Other slim pave banded designs we make, so you can see the whole choice in one place:
We would rather point you to a different ring of ours than sell you the wrong one. If none of these is quite right, tell us what you are after and we will say so plainly.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, well. Fine, straight sided and plain in the lower half. A milgrain edged wedding band beside it looks particularly right.
Can it be resized? Yes, comfortably, because the lower half carries no stones.
Is a band this fine durable? In 10K or 14K, yes, with normal care. In 18K it is softer and will mark more readily. We would rather say so than have it come back bent.
Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
